Solo, Sub-warp, Cyrene to Arkadia

I was unsure where to go, we had to be close to an hunting zone for Space Skilling Saturday, it is only Thursday but I will have so little time tomorrow night. My choices were Calypso or Arkadia, Wolta had logged on the ship and Nocturaline had already gone to Arkadia so I figured Arkadia was the place to be.

It was about 20 minutes before I reached Arkadia that Nocturaline reminded me she would not be able to attend this week’s Space Skilling Saturday, my memory, Doh! I continued on and docked at Arkadia before logging.

The journey was without incident, I did not see another active ship.

Space Skilling Saturday 48 (Leaving Rocktropia).

Location:- Rocktropian Space.
Time:- 1900 MA.
Present:- Wolta, Nocturaline, Phil and Myself.
Team name:- Sleepyheads. More Coffee Now!

We started on time leaving Rocktropia Space Station just as the clock struck 7. I had been careful today not to drink any alcohol and I had prepared coffee to keep me going.

I took the first shift after piloting from the space station. There were enough Cosmic Horrors around to quickly build up a decent stack to keep Engineering busy and to my surprise they gave skills for a long time. I only had 2 sessions at the turret one half way through and one at the end, loot was poor. I did have to get out of the pilot seat on one occasion as Engineering were not quite keeping up with me.

Nocturaline took the helm next she was close to level 19 Captain and was very likely going to get there tonight. At the start of her shift I made some more Coffee. On my return I gained a level in Telepath, go figure. After 35 minutes Nocturaline reported she had gained her Captain level. Shortly afterwards I visited the turret for the second time during Nocturaline’s stint and got a loot of about 20 PED as well as some smaller ones. We had big problems with chat lag it seems only Local is reliable and it took me a while to respond to Nocturaline’s 3rd call to a turret, when I did the first kill was in the 30 PED region. After this Nocturaline relinquished the chair.

Wolta was next up, at this change over I did not get more coffee as I was wide awake and coping with multiple tasks including the writing of this log, without any issues. Wolta soon had us busy in Engineering, chat became a bigger issue with all channels taking more than 5 minutes and I suspect some messages getting lost. The team information vanished from my screen, I tried to recreate but could not, I tried a re-log after which when I tried to create a team I was told I was already a member of one! Chat messages are not going missing but they were not appearing in the same order they were sent. We could not communicate well enough to hunt and Wolta headed to the Space Station to get rid of her stack, disappointing. After sometime I managed to communicate with Wolta to return to the mobs, when we did I killed 2 but could not loot them, I was told the loot belonged to someone else! What a complete fuck up. I logged and rebooted after which I could see the team widget but neither Nocturaline or Wolta appeared in my friend list. I invited Nocturaline by clicking on the avatar and then headed to the bridge to invite Wolta, once done it was possible to kill and loot the Cosmic Horrors which had waited so patiently. It was not worth the effort. Returning to repair we continued for a short while before heading to Erebos, the chat lag continued on and off mostly on, even the decision to go to Erebos was difficult.

We planed to overnight at Erebos and for Wolta to take us to Cyrene tomorrow morning. However after Wolta had piloted us to Erebos I noticed that Zeus was only about 35 minutes away. Wolta logged and with Nocturaline in a turret I took the helm and steered us toward Zeus. The journey was uneventful and on docking at Zeus Space Station both Nocturaline and Myself logged.

Post Script:-The following morning (Sunday the 14th of December 2014) I logged in to find the ship already at Cyrene, I had slept late due probably to too much coffee. Nocturaline reported that the trip from Zeus to Cyrene was “Quiet”.

Space Skilling Saturday 46 (New Blood? )

Location:- Calypso Space.
Time:- 1900 MA.
Present:- Wolta, Nocturaline, Phil, Hans and Myself.
Team name:- Sleepyheads @Gavlebocken time

We started on time and with a new crew member trying out, one Hans Penguin Black. There was no pirate activity at Calypso Space Station, there was no activity at all. After the summons I took us to Crystal Palace where Wolta boarded and then onto the training grounds. With an extra pilot we each had just 45 minutes at the helm. I elected to just collect as many Cosmic Horrors as possible and after 40 minutes jump into a turret and have at them. This worked well as it gave the crew lots of repair work to do, I got decent skills but could have done better with fresh Horrors. The end was nice though, even managed us a 110 PED global.

Wolta took over from me and while she kept us all busy we chatted with Hans, introducing him to how us Sleepyheads do things, it seems it is a bit different to what he is used to, I explained that the piloting stint was   earned by repairing for other pilots and that we all rely on each other to gain skills while aboard. I was called to a turret twice during Wolta’s stint, the second time being right at the end to clean up before Hans tried his hand at the helm, say that 3 times quickly whilst drunk.

Hans was next up, he took a lot of damage and we were all very busy in repairs, at the end of his stint we tried to kill the stack but I could not get the gun to see many of the Horrors as the ship was in the way. I killed what I could but what I was asking Hans to do was not happening, in the end I had to ask Nocturaline to pilot so that we could finish this stack off and continue with the session. I think a little training may be required.

Nocturaline soon had us busy again, well 3 of us anyway, it seems the explanation regarding earning a place in the pilots chair had fallen on afk ears. We continued as normal Skilling and killing. Nocturaline called me to a turret 3 times during her session.

Hans needed to go to Cyrene whilst the Sleepyheads were heading to Next Island. I explained the quickest way was for him to space himself, die and revive at Crystal Palace, which he did. Nocturaline then warped us to the middle of Next Island training grounds, not sure why. We then headed to and docked at the Space Station with Wolta and Nocturaline descending to the surface and me feeding the animals before logging to write this.

Nocturaline listened to gogol 1er et la horde. Wolta to Pigalle and Raphael, Hans was watching Justified, I forgot to listen to anything and I have lots to catch up on.

In case you are wondering @Gavlebocken is the twitter handle.

Space Skilling Saturday 26 (just one small obstacle)

Location:- Rocktropian Space.
Time:- 1800 MA.
Present:- Wolta, Nocturaline & Myself

Session 26, this marks the 6th month anniversary of Space Skilling Saturday, we must be due a week off!

I seem to remember Cyrene having a training ground area, I seem to remember hunting in it in a quad, I seem to remember getting just one half decent loot. It’s not there now however my memories are of sometime ago so could be at fault.

I knew I would need to warp away from Cyrene as a sub warp trip at the start of a session would take at least an hour, the only issue was where to. During the week I had considered visiting the Locusta, it has been a long while since that happened but with only three of us and none wishing to hunt, that would probably be a stupid move. Stupid moves have there own attraction so I did not dismiss it out of hand. The other 2 options were Calypso space or Rocktropian space.

I was on-line and on the ship with time to spare, I was still undecided as to the location when Wolta logged in so we had a brief discussion, Wolta seemed keen on Rocktropia and wanted to visit the vampires, an argument that persuaded me instantly.

Nocturaline was notonaline, we decide to wait a while as with this being a warp trip to an area quite distant it would take her some time to catch up. She cameonaline about 1810, giving her apologies and by 1815 was ready for transport.

The ship was stationed at the edge of the Cyrene protective zone, so in less than a minute we were at warp. We arrived in the zone almost next to a Cosmic Horror and began taking damage.

I took the first hour in the chair, nothing remarkable happened, the lack of proximity of the space station was a bit of a bind once mobs stopped giving skills, instead of dragging them all the way to the station to dispose of them I drew them out of the zone a way then looped around to return to the zone. This worked better than I had thought as there were always plenty of fresh mobs in the area I had recently vacated.

Nocturaline took the next hour then Wolta followed her, I cannot describe what was going on outside but I do know I was kept busy at repair for the full 2 hours. I spent most of the time chatting with people, mostly Alaina Scotia Bonnie and Feyn An Talitha, always interesting but I fear I banged on about Lovecraft a little too much.

Surprisingly I did not feel like dozing off during this session and both Wolta and Nocturaline managed to remain concious throughout although both had become tired thus living up to their Sleepyhead status. I took the ship back to the station and manoeuvred it to it’s usual parking position at the outer boundary of the protective zone on a direct route to the planet.

Nocturaline logged on the ship, Wolta and I headed to the surface in my quad seeing just one red triangle on the way, it was sitting in wait. We headed for the planet whist keeping a watch on the foe, when it began to manoeuvre behind us I turned and headed straight for it, it turned and headed to the space station, it’s advantage gone.

Rocktropia is the best place for free-falling to the surface, there is a small pool of water with a TP in the middle, it’s a difficult target to land in the water and survive the fall. I missed by about 2 meters for both Wolta and myself.

Tonight’s entertainment was catching up with Mike & Mike podcasts  and also the latest from the H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast at hppodcraft.com.

I wonder what has happened to Vinge?
